For Indian Students: What to Check Before You Choose a Course

  • Grade conversion: First AURAK converts the marks you got in CBSE, ICSE and state board to its internal marks system. You should check your converted percentage with the admissions before you apply because the cutoffs for engineering and business are different. Indian students need to get a UAE Ministry of Education equivalency certificate that says your Class 12 certificate is equivalent to theirs before your admission is finalised. You have to get your Class 10-12 transcripts attested by your board, the UAE Embassy and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs which takes 15-20 working days once submitted so you should start doing this early.
  • English Test: AURAK needs an English proficiency test. Most Indian students take the IELTS Academic test. Usually, you need to get a 5.0 for study and a 6.0 for graduate study.
  • Subject specific eligibility:  For subjects like Engineering, AI, Computer Science or Biotechnology you need to check your Class XII Math, Physics, Chemistry or Biology percentage.
  •  Visa and deposit costs: The visa fee is AED 2,000 which is non-refundable. The security deposit is also AED 2,000 which is refundable. You need to pay these from your tuition fees. You can check the Student Visa Guide to see what else you need to do.
  • Documentation: Get all your documents ready before you start your application. You need to have a copy of your passport, your transcripts translated into English, some passport photographs and your health documents.
  • Financial planning: Think about how much money you will need for your first year at AURAK. You can use the  ROI Calculator to help you plan before committing. You need to include all the one-time fees in your budget.
  • Education loans: If you need a loan to study at AURAK you should check with your bank to see if they have AURAK on their list of approved universities. Some Indian banks only give loans to students who are studying at universities that are recognized by the AIU or are on the banks list of approved universities.
  • Remittance rules: When you pay your tuition fees from India you need to follow the RBIs Liberalised Remittance Scheme. You should check with your bank to see what the current TCS rates are for education-related remittances.
  • Part-time work: If you want to work while you are studying at AURAK you should check with the international student office to see what the rules are. The rules can change so you should always check before you assume you can work. AURAK has rules about how many hours you can work and whether you are eligible to work part-time.

Common Mistakes Students Make When Choosing Courses at AURAK

  • Assuming every program costs the same: Engineering, AI, Computer Science, and Biotechnology cost more per semester than Business or Arts programs.
  • Skipping subject-specific eligibility checks: Just because of a strong overall percentage, it does not mean students can do Engineering or AI. They need to have at least 80% in Math and Physics.
  • Ignoring non-tuition fees: There are other fees like application, seat reservation, technology fees and visa fees. application, seat reservation, technology, and visa fees. These fees can add up to a lot of money, lakh rupees, beyond what they pay for tuition at AURAK.
  • Confusing per-credit and per-semester rates: Part-time or overloaded semesters are billed per credit hour, not the flat full-time rate.
  • Overlooking the mandatory internship: Every undergraduate student at AURAK must do an internship that lasts 8 to 16 weeks before they can graduate from AURAK.
