American University of Sharjah Acceptance Rate: What Indian Applicants Need to Know

Quick Overview

The American University of Sharjah acceptance rate isn't officially published; third-party estimates put it at 70% to 85%. AUS calls admission competitive and treats 85% as a guideline average, though its Indian-board page lists a 65% minimum. You'll also need IELTS Academic 6.5.

Key Takeaways

  • AUS publishes no acceptance rate; outside estimates run from 70% to 85%.
  • AUS does not publish its acceptance rate, but estimates range from 70% to 85%
  • Indian board students must have an average of 65% in their class 12 exams and a B grade in math, and a B in physics for engineering and data science.
  • A 6.5 IELTS Academic score or 80 TOEFL iBT is required for proficiency in English.
  • The deadline for applications to Spring 2027 is 24 December 2026, while that for Fall 2027 is 19 October 2026.
  • The tuition fee charged is AED 110,876, which is equivalent to Rs. 28.5 lakh for 2026-27. The President’s Scholarship covers the entire amount of tuition fees.

Introduction

Most Indian applicants start with one number: the American University of Sharjah acceptance rate. It's also the least useful number you'll find. AUS doesn't publish it, the estimates online disagree, and the real filters are your maths grade and how early you file.

This guide sets out the estimates and their limits, then the entry rules AUS lists for Indian board students, the 2026-27 dates, transfer rules and tuition in rupees. Read it before you pay the application fee.

What is the American University of Sharjah acceptance rate?

AUS doesn't publish an official acceptance rate, so every percentage online is an estimate. Third-party listings place it between 70% and 79% (uniRank), while an older dataset shows 3,010 applications and 2,545 acceptances, about 85% (Peterson's). Sites calculate it from different years and methods, so they rarely agree.

The number misleads for a simple reason. AUS says the average it needs shifts with the major, the number of qualified applicants and the seats left, and it urges early applications so you're considered for your preferred college. A result that clears a business seat in a quiet year can miss an engineering seat in a busy one.

My view: your maths grade tells you more than any percentage. Engineering and Data Science need a B in maths and physics; business majors need a B in maths. A C in either puts you outside the stated requirement, whatever your overall average. If you're still weighing majors, compare UAE engineering and business courses before you commit.

AUS admission requirements for Indian students

Indian board applicants need at least 65% in Class 12 (or in their best two of the last three years), a B in the required subjects, an English test score and a UAE certificate of equivalency.

Requirement What AUS lists for Indian applicants
Class 12 marks 65% minimum; 85% is the general guideline
Subjects B in maths; physics too for engineering and Data Science
English test IELTS Academic 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80, valid two years
Documents Equivalency certificate, attested marksheets, good-conduct letter, passport
Application fee AED 400 plus 5% VAT, non-refundable
Apply for Academic IELTS: 85% or above if possible; 65% is the minimum requirement
Academic IELTS at least 6.5 and TOEFL IBT at least 80 (80 is four and a half on the new scoring system). Home versions such as IELTS indicator and TOEFL iBT home edition are NOT accepted.

Two things trip people up. First, attestation (official stamps proving documents are genuine) moves from your education authority to the foreign ministry, then the UAE Embassy, and it's slow. AUS lets you start with unattested scans, but you'll need attested originals before you enrol. Second, the certificate of equivalency (proof the UAE recognises your certificate) comes from the UAE Ministry of Education, not AUS, so apply at least two months before classes begin. AUS application deadlines and how to apply

Spring 2027 applications close on 24 December 2026, and Fall 2027 filing opens on 19 October 2026.

Intake Applications open Early file completion Deadline Classes start
Spring 2027 19 Oct 2026 21 Dec 2026 24 Dec 2026 11 Jan 2027
Summer 2027 18 Jan 2027 3 May 2027 13 May 2027 31 May 2027
Fall 2027 19 Oct 2026 5 Jul 2027 Not listed 23 Aug 2027
For Fall 2027, applicants should consider 5 July 2027 as the actual deadline as the university sets an early file completion date but no closing date.

Applicants are requested to apply by creating an account at apply.aus.edu, selecting the student type as a New Student, uploading the required documents, and paying the application fee (AED 400 plus 5% VAT equal to AED 420). Students have to upload their last three-year academic transcripts, class 12 certificate, a good conduct letter from their school or college, a passport-size photograph, and English proficiency. File completion, meaning every document uploaded and verified, is where files tend to stall. The form is the easy part.

Note: AUS calls these dates tentative and subject to change, so recheck the deadlines page before you book flights or pay any deposit.

AUS transfer rules, fees and scholarships

Transfer applicants need 12 completed credit hours at another university, the minimum CGPA AUS sets for that type of institution and, unless exempted, an English score such as IELTS Academic 6.5. They also pay a transcript evaluation fee of AED 400, which is deducted from fees once they enroll and must upload course syllabi for all credits they want.

First-year international students applying from India pay AED 110,876 for 2026-27, or about ₹28.5 lakh at recent exchange rates, plus lab fees of AED 1,552 to AED 1,700 per course. Shared residence rooms work out to AED 7,000 per semester at 2025-26 rates, before a 25 percent discount for first years. Course-level costs sit on our AUS university profile page.

Note that tuition and residence fees are subject to change every academic year, so you should check the latest figures on AUS’s fees page before planning your family budget.

The President Scholarship covers 100% tuition and lab fees for overseas students but requires a 98% aggregate, SAT of 1400 and IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL iBT 94 for Indian boards. It's a long shot for most. The realistic prize is the Merit Scholarship, worth 10% to 20% and offered automatically at admission if your Grade 10 and 11 average is 95% or higher; transfers aren't eligible, and offers aren't guaranteed. Last cycle's President's deadline was 19 March 2026, so plan your IELTS date around a spring cutoff. You can compare these schemes with our AUS financial aid and scholarships summary.

Conclusion

Check your Class 12 maths and physics grades against AUS's B rule this week; that single check tells you more than the American University of Sharjah acceptance rate ever will. Then pick your intake and start attestation early.
